From Middle Persian *bōdag. Compare Classical Syriac ܒܘܕܩܐ (būdqā, “crucible”), Middle Armenian բութակ (butʻak), and possibly via Semitic from Old Iranian also Ancient Greek βοῦτ(τ)ις (boût(t)is), βυτίνη (butínē), πυτίνη (putínē).
