Etymology edit

From Hebrew תַּלְמִיד (talmīḏ) or Aramaic תַּלְמִידָא (talmīḏā), forming the denominal root ت ل م ذ (t-l-m-ḏ). Related to Classical Syriac ܬܠܡܝܕܐ, Ge'ez ተልሚድ (tälmid), تَلْمُود (talmūd), another borrowing from the same Hebrew and Aramaic root.
