Arabic edit

Etymology edit

From Aramaic חוֹחַא (ḥōḥā, thornbush), likely originally referring to the Prunus spinosa variety, commonly known as blackthorn; cognates with Classical Syriac ܚܘܚܐ (ḥōḥā, thornbush), and Hebrew חוֹחַ (ḥōaḥ, thornbush), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic חָחָא / חָאחָא (ḥaḥḥā, plum), Classical Syriac ܚܲܚܵܐ (ḥaḥḥā, plum). Possibly an ancient Turkic borrowing, belonging to the family of Azerbaijani göyəm (sloe) (see there for more Turkic).
