From Classical Syriac ܩܠܒܝܕ (/⁠*qālobīḏ⁠/, last), from Ancient Greek καλοπόδιον (kalopódion, last), diminutive of καλόπους (kalópous, last), compound of κᾶλον (kâlon, wood) and πούς (poús, foot).
