Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (pncʾh /⁠panjāh⁠/, fifty⁠), from Proto-Iranian *pančaHcát (fifty), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pančaHćát (fifty), from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷedḱomt (fifty). Compare Sanskrit पञ्चाशत् (pañcāśat, fifty) whence Hindi पचास (pacās, fifty), Ancient Greek πεντήκοντᾰ (pentḗkonta, fifty), Latin quīnquāgintā (fifty).
