From ܓܙܪܬܐ (gāzartāʾ, island), from the root ܓ ܙ ܪ related to cutting off + ܝܒܫܢܝܬܐ (yaḇšānāytāʾ), feminine form of ܝܒܫܢܝܐ (yaḇšānāyāʾ, terrestrial), from the root ܝ ܒ ܫ related to dryness.
