Etymology

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic מַרְחֶשְׁוָן (marḥešwān), from Akkadian 𒌗𒀳 (itiwaraḫsamnu, literally the eighth month). Later displaced by ܬܸܫܪܝܼܢ ܬܪܲܝܵܢܵܐ (tišrīn trayyānā).
