Etymology
editFrom the root क्रुध् (krudh, “to be angry”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *krawdʰ- (“to be angry, enraged”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬑𐬭𐬀𐬊𐬛𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (xraodaiti, “to enrage”).

- अहङ्कारं बलं दर्पं कामं क्रोधं च संश्रिताः।
मामात्मपरदेहेषु प्रद्विषन्तोऽभ्यसूयकाः॥- ahaṅkāraṃ balaṃ darpaṃ kāmaṃ krodhaṃ ca saṃśritāḥ.
māmātmaparadeheṣu pradviṣantoʼbhyasūyakāḥ. - Given over to egotism, brute force, arrogance, lust and anger etc., and culminating other they despise Me (the in-dweller), dwelling in their own bodies, as in those of others.
- ahaṅkāraṃ balaṃ darpaṃ kāmaṃ krodhaṃ ca saṃśritāḥ.
