Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘦𑘲𑘙 (mīṭha), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (miṭṭha), from Sanskrit मिष्ट (miṣṭa), a later form of मृष्ट (mṛṣṭá). Cognate with Gujarati મીઠું (mīṭhũ).
