Inherited from Prakrit *हलुक्क- (halukka-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from *हलु- (halu-) + -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-), from—undergoing metathesis—लहु (lahu, “light, small”). Cognate with Nepali हलुको (haluko), Bengali হালকা (haloka). Related to Old Hindi लहु (lahu, “light, small”).[1]
