Derived from Proto-Dravidian *wec- (“heat”). Cognate with Kannada ಬಿಸಿಲು (bisilu, “sunshine”), Malayalam വെയിൽ (veyil), Tamil வெயில் (veyil, “sunshine”), Tulu ಬಿಸುಲ್ (bisulŭ, “sunshine”). Related to వేచు (vēcu, “to fry, grill”).
