Etymology edit

From นคร (ná-kɔɔn, city) +‎ ราช (râat, royal) +‎ สีมา (sǐi-maa, border; boundary); literally "city [which is a] royal border [of the Ayutthaya Kingdom]"; believed to have been adapted from the names of the two ancient city-states located in the area, โคราช (koo-râat) and เสมา (sěe-maa).
