From Proto-Tai *mwɯːᴬ (hand). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨾᩨ, Lao ມື (mư̄), ᦙᦹ (mue), Shan မိုဝ်း (múe), Aiton မိုဝ် (müw), Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜤𑜈𑜫 (müw), Zhuang mwz, Saek มื๊อ. Compare Sui myal (hand), Proto-Be *məːᴬ², Proto-Hlai *C-mɯː (hand) (whence mɯɰ¹~mɯɰ⁴ across the different lects), Proto-Austronesian *qalima (hand).
