Inherited from Proto-Lolo-Burmese *b/ʔ-ləj² (four), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b-ləj (four). Cognate with S'gaw Karen လွံၢ် (lwee̱), Nuosu (ly), Tibetan བཞི (bzhi), Sikkimese ཞི (zhi).
