Etymology edit
Uncertain.
Possibly a loan from Proto-Mon-Khmer *luŋh ~ *luuŋh ~ *ləŋh (“to hollow, excavate, bore”), whence Khmer លុង (lung, “to dig a hole”) and Vietnamese trũng (“concave”). See also Mizo lawng (“to take out the heart of a wild platain tree”) (Sidwell, 2006; Schuessler, 2007).
