Etymology edit

From the Proto-Semitic root d-b-r which has the general meanings 'to follow, to come or be behind, to lead.' Cognates include Arabic دَبْرٌ (dabrun), دُبْرٌ (dubrun, back, hinder part), Arabic دَبْرَةٌ (dabratun, open field) from دَبْرٌ (dabrun, mountain), which may be a borrowed from Ge'ez ደብር (däbr). Other cognates include Biblical Hebrew דֹבֶר (doβer, pasture), Aramaic דַבּרָא (dabbərā, pasture, field), Classical Syriac ܕܒܪܐ (daβrā, daβro, pasture, field)
