Etymology

The term yukusa derives from a contraction of the adverb 良く (yoku, “well”) (yoku → you → yu), the emphatic particle こそ (koso) (koso → kuso), and the topic particle は (wa). It is cognate to the standard Japanese form ようこそ (yōkoso).
