South Picene

edit

Etymology

edit

From Proto-Italic *okris, from Proto-Indo-European *hโ‚‚รณแธฑris.

Noun

edit

๐Œ๐ŒŠ๐Œ“๐Œ„๐Œ โ€ข (okreรญ)

  1. citadel, castle, city

Usage notes

edit

The term bears the ending -๐Œ„๐Œ (-eรญ), which is found in other dative singular terms in South Picene. However, the term has also been interpreted as a locative singular based on the semantic context of the text. If South Picene did have a locative singular ending -๐Œ„๐Œ (-eรญ), it would not be inconsistent with the rest of the Italic evidence.
