Etymology edit

From Proto-Germanic *uhnaz (โ€œovenโ€). As the only attestation in Gothic is in the accusative singular - the form of which is identical between masculine and neuter a-stem nouns - this word could also have been a neuter a-stem; however, the gender of its Germanic cognates makes that very unlikely.
