Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly an apocopated form of 𐍃𐌰𐌹𐍈 (saiƕ), second person singular imperative of 𐍃𐌰𐌹𐍈𐌰𐌽 (saiƕan, “to see”). Alternatively, it has been derived from the pronoun 𐍃𐌰 (sa): either with a deictic -𐌹 (-i) (comparable to and of the same origin as the Greek deictic iota) or as a locative form.
