Mongolian edit

Etymology edit

From a Proto-Mongolic suffix in *-j- related to converbial (), possibly extended with an emphatic particle.

Suffix edit

-жээ (-žee)

  1. The resultative suffix, usually expressing narrative past

Usage notes edit

  • This verb form indicates a more distant past than the confirmative suffix -лаа (-laa). The suffix also carries secondary evidential force, implying that the speaker didn't directly witness the action.
  • Unlike most other suffixes, this one doesn't obey vowel harmony
  • For the distribution of -жээ/-чээ (-žee/-čee), same rules as in () apply.
