edit-వి • (-vi)
- contraction of the pronouns అవి (avi) or ఇవి (ivi); used to form neuter plural nouns from adjectives, often as a predicate marker
- used with the genitive case of nouns to indicate possession
- used with the participle form of verbs to form nouns meaning "the ones which (the verb)"
- కొన్నవి ― konnavi ― the ones which were bought
- used with general adjectives to form nouns meaning "the (the adjective) ones"
- ఈ కాలాలు కొత్తవి. ― ī kālālu kottavi. ― These pens are new. (literally, “These pens new ones.”)
- second person singular concord marker
- నువ్వు నా స్నేహితుడివి. ― nuvvu nā snēhituḍivi. ― You are my friend.
Usage notes
edit- Nouns ending with the predicate marker suffix -వి are declined as if the అవి pronoun wasn't contracted, i.e., the oblique stem uses the suffix -వాటి (-vāṭi).
- There is no second person plural or third person concord marker. Bare nouns are used as the predicate in such nominal sentences.
