From Ancient Greek ἀδελφός ‎(adelphós, brother).

  1. (botany) Preceded by an Arabic numeral to indicate the number of bundles in which a flower's stamens are fused.

Usage notesEdit

  • Although adelphy is used as a separate word, adelphous is only ever found in combinations.
  • Full words exist only for one to five bundles, numerals are used for higher numbers (and are also possible for the lower ones).
