Etymology edit

From Latinized Ancient Greek ἀφελής (aphelḗs, “simple”) + Latin coma (“hair”) (from Ancient Greek κόμη (kómē)), in reference to the lack of striped or banded feathers in this genus, compared to other jays.^[1]
