Possibly a substrate term related to Latin ervum (“bitter-vetch”), Ancient Greek ὄροβος (órobos, “bitter-vetch”), ἐρέβινθος (erébinthos, “chickpea”) and to Middle Armenian առուոյտ (aṙuoyt, “alfalfa”).
