Etymology edit
From Proto-Indo-European *ḱérus or *ḱérh₂us (“pointed stick, arrow, spear, sword”) from the root *ḱerh₂- (“head; horn”), cognate with Sanskrit शरु (śáru, “missile, dart, arrow”),[1] or from *(s)ker- (“to cut”).[2]
