Etymology

I made an edit saying:

From Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰedʰ- (“to request, pray, wish for”), or from *bʰedʰ- (“to bend”).

and user:CodeCat reverted it with the comment "That meaning makes no sense, and Pokorny is horribly outdated anyway". But take a look at [1] which gives a Sanskrit compound word meaning "knee-bending" and Tocharian words meaning "worship, adoration", from bhedh. So it's reasonable that it could have developed into meaning to beg. Also, I don't find any other example of where gwh became b in Germanic, but I do find examples where it became g or w (namely "gun" and "warm"). Don't dismiss Pokorny unless you have good arguments against him, like some data that he didn't take into consideration. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 18:30, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

I concur with Eric Kvaalen that the current etymology is suspect.
