Appendix talk:Tok Pisin Swadesh list
Please remove commas and incorrect divisions of phrases
editThere seems to have been some kind of process that has automatically divided multi-word phrases into single words separated by commas. For example "wanem, taim" for "when" (literally "what, time") and "no, brait" for "narrow" (literally "not, wide"). Commas are used in Swadesh lists to show alternative words, but these are not alternative words. "No" is not a possible translation of "narrow". It simply means "no" or "not". Likewise, "brait" is also not a possible translation of "narrow". It means "wide/broad", which is the exact opposite of the intended meaning. The full phrase is "no brait". Both words, together and unseparated by a comma, are necessary for the meaning. Please fix this!
Here are the examples I spotted where the commas should be removed:
wanem, ples -> wanem ples
wanem, taim -> wanem taim
olsem, wanem -> olsem wanem
no, brait - no brait
liklik, snek - liklik snek
ol, samting, insait, long, bodi -> ol samting insait long bodi
Here are a couple of additional errors I have spotted. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to edit Swadesh list here directly as the code seems to be stored somewhere else.
