Arabic جِبَال الأَطْلَس (jibāl al-ʔaṭlas), from Berber ⵉⴷⵓⵔⴰⵔ ⵏ ⵡⴰⵟⵍⴰⵙ (idurar n waṭlas), both ultimately from the Ancient Greek Ἄτλας (Átlas), stemming from the belief that the mountain range is actually the body of the Titan Atlas after being turned to stone.
