The amino nitrogen group is then acylated with a 16:1 (trans A 3) -CoA, probably by the sphingosine acyltransferase to form 1-deoxyceramide 1sulfonate (4, 70,92). The sphinganine form of this compound is then reduced to DCS. The capnoid sulfolipids, capnine and N-acryl capnine, of the Capnocytophaga bacteria are very similar in structure to DSC differing only in the hydrocarbon chain (50).
