    The controllee will not need to be specified in this way. In English and most other languages, the controllee in structures of this type is always the subject. As (10) illustrates, the controllee must be the grammatical subject; it cannot be identified with a particular semantic role. The controllee in (10a) is the agent, while the controllee in (10b) is the patient.
