 (relativity) A symmetric 4 × 4 tensor equation in general relativity in which the gravitational force is described as a curvature of spacetime caused by matter and energy.
 The Einstein field equation states that the energymomentum tensor is directly proportional to the Ricci tensor minus half of the Ricci scalar times the metric tensor plus the cosmological constant times the metric tensor.
