Uncertain. Probably derived from an unattested form *Etrūsia, metathesis of an earlier form *Etursia, with the *turs- root related to Ancient Greek Τυρρηνός (Turrhēnós)/Τυρσηνός (Tursēnós). Compare and see Etruscus and Tuscus (“Tuscan”).
