Summary

Description
English: The density of ice (at 0°) is less than the density of water (at 0°), so the ice occupies a larger volume than water. If the lake has frozen over completely, and there are ice-holes and crevices, the ice and water come into contact. If the frosty days continue, new portions of water will freeze. To turn this water into ice, an additional volume is needed, and since the water touches the ice, there is no additional volume. Therefore, there is a huge pressure in the water, which breaks the ice, and excess water comes out to the surface of the ice.
