English: An illustration of the Ancient Greek word for "eagle" (ἀετός). The eagle was a symbol for Zeus, the highest of the Olympic gods, whence Aischylus called it "the winged dog of Zeus":

[...] Διὸς δέ σοι πτηνὸς κύων, δαφοινὸς αἰετός, λάβρως διαρταμήσει σώματος μέγα ῥάκος, [...]

[...] but Zeus' winged dog, the tawny eagle, will greedily strip off a piece of your body [...]
