Etymology edit

"Hell" spelled out.

Noun edit

HE-double-L (uncountable)

  1. (idiomatic, euphemistic) Hell.

As narrow and close as a coffin, and dark as H E double L.

Usage notes edit

  • May be spelled with varying hyphen usage, spacing, and capitalization.
  • L-shaped objects (such as toothpicks or hockey sticks) are sometimes named in place of the letter L.
  • For humorous reasons, the “L” may be replaced with a more taboo word than “Hell”, e.g. “HE-double-fuck”.
