EtymologyEdit

By dissimilation from Latin quīnquāgintā, from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe(d)ḱomt. The same dissimilation affected quīnque > *cīnque (five), but not quīndecim (fifteen) or quīngentī (five hundred).
