EtymologyEdit

By dissimilation from Latin quīnque, from Proto‐Indo‐European *pénkʷe. The same dissimilation affected quīnquāgintā > *cīnquāgintā (fifty), but not quīndecim (fifteen), quīntus (fifth) or quīngentī (five hundred).
