LatinEdit

EtymologyEdit

From sum, first person singular present active indicative of esse. In the infinitive + third conjugation infinitive suffix -ere, with influence from sedeo in Iberian dialects and fio in Eastern ones.

PronunciationEdit

VerbEdit

*sun (present infinitive *essere, perfect active *fuī); irregular conjugation, deponent

  1. (Vulgar Latin) I am.

ConjugationEdit

This verb, being already the most irregular verb in Latin, shows great variation among the families of daughter languages, disagreeing on the stems of several forms (including the infinitive). Iberian dialects suppleted forms from sedeo, and Eastern dialects have suppleted several forms from fio.

This verb needs an inflection-table template.
