Etymology edit

From earlier *arbaiþiz. Apparently linked to a verb *arbijaną, *arbāną (“be orphaned”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃órbʰos (“orphan”). Compare, with a different suffix, Proto-Slavic *orbota (“work”).
