Reconstruction:Proto-Norse/ᚹᚨᚱᛁᛃᚨᛉ
Proto-Norse edit
Etymology edit
Probably from Proto-Germanic *warjaz (“guardian”). However, by Sievers' law, the -i- may indicate that the root vowel was long. If so, it could instead be related to Proto-Germanic *wēraz (“true”), Gothic 𐌰𐌻𐌻𐌰𐍅𐌴𐍂𐌴𐌹 (allawērei, “sincerity, agreeability”), and mean "loyal", "reliable".
Noun edit
*ᚹᚨᚱᛁᛃᚨᛉ (*warijaz /*warjaz/ or *warijaʀ /*wārijaz/) m
