@Tropylium This doesn't make much sense to me. The normal outcome of kt is ht in Finnish. Why would there be ts instead? —CodeCat 14:22, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@CodeCat: otso: "An old hypercorrection for dialectal ohto, from Proto-Finnic *okto." --kc_kennylau (talk) 14:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
ht is the usual Eastern Finnish correspondent of written ts. Otso is only attested from written Finnish and (relatively late reports of) folk poetry, while ohto is additionally found in regular use in a variety of dialects, including some outside the area of *ts > ht; so the usual theory is hypercorrection, maybe somewhere around the 17-18th century.
There's even a very close parallel with kettu having a variant ketsu in the Tampere dialect and therearound (where tt is the colloquial equivalent of ts). --Tropylium (talk) 20:21, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
On closer checking, delete — it doesn't seem that there are grounds for a Proto-Finnic entry; there are no inherited descendants in other Finnic languages. I've added instead the better attested base word Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E.. --Tropylium (talk) 10:58, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I did hear this word before, but I'd can't seem to recollect it. 86.99.15.2 11:01, 16 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
