These are not accurate "translingual" definitions for these symbols. Each language has one or several pairs of characters used for quoting. Some languages use the reverse of others, some use the same character on the left and the right, some use one character from other languages but match it with one of their own. — Hippietrail 13:59, 19 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Special use in Finnish?

edit

I think it's also used in Finnish to separate parts of a loanword from the Finnish inflectional endings (or something like that): see e.g. parfait. Compare [[:]], which can also turn up mid-word in Finnish. Equinox 06:03, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Usage in Italian

edit

' is used in Italian as an emphasis when a grave accent (`) is unavailable. (Così = cosi', città = citta', più = piu').

Can a page named "& # 3 9 ;" be created?

edit

There was this coding error that caused apostrophes display as ', e.g. "don't" or "can't". But, when I tried to make the page, it just said something like "There is a page named ' on this wiki". alex (talk) 19:12, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
