Earlier spellings

Apparently 彈黃, 灘黃, and 灘王 were earlier spellings, so 彈 ("to pluck," "to play (a string instrument)") probably originally referred to the playing of stringed instruments in this genre's accompaniment. 173.88.246.138 06:40, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
