Where there inflected forms Todtes and Todte?? I really don't know, but it would contradict the normal pronunciation. I'd expect Todt and maybe Todts, but no forms with a following vowel.Kolmiel (talk) 01:13, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Probably it's properly Todt (normalised MHG tôt) with genitive Todes (normalised MHG todes) and Todts (as for MHG this is unmentioned in short MHG grammars and the dictionaries by Lexer and Benecke, Müller, Zarncke), where dt denots final obstruent devoicing. Incorrectly (or illogical, or South German?) it was also Todtes and Todts. Todt could also have genitive Tods, as if it's originally Todt with Todes and people not knowing how to write the syncopated form with genitive in -s instead of -es. But it's complicated to attest Todt with Tods as often Todt, Todes, Tod, Tods do appear in the same text. Also maybe Tods was originally or regionally voiced, then the form would make sense.

• This google books example has four times "Todt" and once "deß ewigen Tods sterben" on the same page. Hence Tods could belong to Todt. But on other pages it's also "Todts" (twice), "Tods" (twice, so thrice in total), "Todes" (thrice), "dem ewigen Tod" and "in den Tod". Hence Tods could also belong to Tod. Numbers according to google's OCR, which might not detect all instances.
