defusion edit

First two senses only. Not in the OED. SemperBlotto 22:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

diffusion? DAVilla 07:05, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The top 100 b.g.c. hits include many for the act of figuratively defusing situations, but none I think for the literal sense. Also some for the undisputed psychological sense. I was amused by "The ‘defusion' response is used to provide emotional and physical safety whilst continuing to value the person" since out of context I couldn't be sure which of the three senses it refered to. Worth searching further. --Enginear 18:36, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wouldn't that merit replacing the three meanings with "Common misspelling of..."? --Connel MacKenzie 19:03, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Would RFV fail except found evidence of misspelling on Google Books, so labeling such. not sure if The etymology is worth keeping in some form. DAVilla 15:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

But it's not a misspelling of diffusion, but rather a non-standard nominalization of defuse. It's presumably formed by analogy/confusion with diffusion, but that's not really the same thing; to fix a sentence that used defusion, you'd replace it with defusing, not with diffusion. Okay then, first sense still needs citing. DAVilla 20:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
