Well, the current definition represents the earliest definition, which was used to create the words (deprecated template usage) merman, (deprecated template usage) mermaid, (deprecated template usage) mersnake, (deprecated template usage) merswine. From merman and mermaid come all the others apparently, as references to "mermaid" things. I suppose we can split into two senses or even two etymolgies. Leasnam (talk) 21:51, 26 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
