Spanish Pronunciation edit

Shouldn't the pronunciation in Spanish be /ˈmesa/ rather than /ˈmɛsa/? The latter would be pronounced like GA "mess ah." The vowel should be less like a short e sound and closer to an abbreviated long a. — This comment was unsigned.

IMO yes. Mglovesfun (talk) 21:43, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to go ahead and change it. Wikipedia doesn't even list /ɛ/ as a Spanish phoneme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_phonology
In English, mesa is pronounced mace-uh, with a long vowel, but in Spanish it is about halfway in between French è and French é (halfway between /ɛ/ and /e/). It may be represented by /e̞/. The sound of Spanish mesa is closer to GA "mess ah" than it is to "mace ah". —Stephen 15:50, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Asturian Etymology edit

Does anyone think that the Asturian word mesa is a descendant of the Latin word mensa? I guess so. - Lo Ximiendo 01:50, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Return to "mesa" page.
