@GianWiki: Would you know the etymology of this term? My French etymological says French piston comes from Italian pistone, but I wonder if it isn't the other way around (that is, pistone would be a reborrowing from French, which would itself be a borrowing from Italian pestone). --Barytonesis (talk) 23:08, 27 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

According to the Treccani web dictionary, Italian pistone comes from French piston, which itself comes from Italian pistone (a variant form of pestone). It seems you were right. -- GianWiki (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
