Usage in Christian Theology The term "veracity" although not used in the Bible, is nonetheless a prominent theme in Scripture. 1 Peter 1:4 speaks of certain promises made by God which are designed to have a certain effect upon those who accept them. "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

The surety of these exceeding great and precious promises lies in the veracity of the God who cannot lie. "God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19). Jesus often emphasized the truth of His teaching with the words, "Verily, Verily" as in John 6:47 where he said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
